Skyline Corp. Loss Grows

Elkhart-based Skyline Corp. is reporting a fiscal third quarter net loss of $2.4 million, compared to a net loss of $520,000 during the same period the previous year. Chief Executive Officer Richard Florea says the closure of two underperforming facilities will allow the company to focus on improving profitability.
Skyline announced last month it was selling its 79,000 manufactured housing facility in Mansfield, Texas to Michigan-based Champion Home Builders Inc. for $2.25 million. Less than one week later, the company said it was suspending operations at its manufacturing plant in Elkhart, which opened less than a year prior.
Florea said while the company is disappointed in its third quarter results, the decision to close the two plans will "eliminate the persistent losses that they have incurred."
