Saint Joseph’s Announces More Cuts

The cuts at Saint Joseph’s College continue. In an updated notice to the state, the college says it will lay off 16 employees in mid-June, which comes in addition to the more than 400 previously-announced layoffs.
The majority of the latest round of layoffs include athletics and campus or facilities service positions. The cuts are the latest result of Saint Joseph’s financial troubles, which were revealed earlier this year when the college announced it would suspend campus activities at the end of the current semester.
Saint Joseph’s says it is working to schedule the remaining layoffs and will provide notice to the state within at least 60 days of the separations.
The news comes more than week after Saint Joseph’s announced it was voluntarily resigning its accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission. The college said doing so now would make it easier to regain accreditation if it can recover from its financial situation.
