Nearly $1M Grant to Boost IndyGo Solar Tech

Subscribe NowIndyGo, the city’s public transportation system, has received a $980,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The funds will cover solar power infrastructure to charge electric buses. IndyGo is among 52 recipients from the more than $84 million Low or No-Emission Grant program.
The initiative funds transit bus and infrastructure projects that use advanced propulsion technologies such as hybrid or battery electric. In 2016, Carmel-based Telamon Corp. completed the installation of a $2.2 million solar array on the top of IndyGo’s facility on the city’s near west side. It received a $10 million federal grant in 2013 to build what it said at the time would be the largest electric bus fleet in the country.
