EarSketch, which will kick off in the fall for kids between ages 12 and 18, aims to create interest in computing and engineering careers among young people.
Bloom Project’s STEM initiative, Techkings, will launch the program in the 2018-2019 academic year. EarSketch was originally created at Georgia Tech and is funded by the National Science Foundation. It provides a digital audio workstation for students to create their own computational music remixes through coding.
EarSketch has tapped Grammy-winning DJ and engineer Gimel "Young Guru" Keaton to produce new audio content for students to use in the program. Young Guru will be in Indianapolis this weekend to serve as the keynote speaker and featured DJ at Techkings’ annual fundraiser, Pardi Gras Ball. The event will also be a celebration of the launch of EarSketch in Indy.
"The EarSketch team at Georgia Tech is delighted that Techkings will be using EarSketch to engage Indianapolis kids in coding through music," said Jason Freeman, co-founder of Earsketch, and professor of music technology at Georgia Tech. "We look forward to continuing to collaborate with Techkings to support their mission."
