For the ninth year in a row, the Indiana Donor Network says a record number of organs were donated in a single year.
The organization transplanted 1,388 donated organs in 2024, saving 1,216 lives. In 2023, there were 1,134 transplants.
“As we look ahead to 2025, we are setting even higher goals, knowing that we have not yet reached the full extent of the impact we can make,” Indiana Donor Network President and CEO Kellie Tremain said in a news release. “We will continue to push boundaries and find new ways to save and heal more lives than ever before.”
Organ donation in Indiana has trended upward since 2016. The Indiana Donor Network also reported a record of 1,592 tissue and cornea donors that resulted in 17,360 tissues recovered.

One organ donor can save eight lives and one tissue donor can heal more than 75 others, according to the organization. More than 4.6 million Hoosiers have registered as donors.
Last year, the “Driven to Save Lives” film debuted at the 2024 Heartland International Film Festival. It features the stories of four Indiana families who have been impacted by organ donation.
Racer Bryan Clauson’s family was featured in the film. The Clausons and the Indiana Donor Network launched Driven2Save Lives several years ago to educate race fans about organ and tissue donation.
