Holy Cross College receives $1M gift for adoration chapel

Holy Cross College has received a $1 million gift to support the construction of a new adoration chapel at the college’s future student union, the school announced Wednesday.
The gift comes from Dr. Gregory Hoffman, who serves on the college’s board of trustees, and his wife, Susanne.
Holy Cross said the adoration chapel will provide a “daily spiritual anchor” for students, faculty, staff and the community. It’s part of the planned student union project, the design process for which is expected to begin this fall.
“We firmly believe in the mission of forming young men and women to be scholars, citizens, leaders, and disciples,” Hoffman said in a news release. “Our hope is that it will provide a place for students and faculty and administrators to pray and to reflect on all the wonderful things that God has bestowed on Holy Cross College and the Holy Cross College Family.”
Holy Cross said construction on the student union is scheduled in the first phase of the college’s campus master plan, though a specific timeline has not been revealed.
“An adoration chapel in our new student union will provide a place for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors to contemplate the living God, offer ourselves to be drawn into His love, and learn to take that same love to heart in our own lives,” said Holy Cross President Marco Clark. “Greg and Sue’s extraordinary generosity ensures that prayer, reflection, and sacramental life will remain central to our students’ daily experience for decades to come.”
The student union will be the second new building constructed on the Holy Cross campus in a decade. Earlier this month, the college broke ground on a $12 million residential complex, as well as an expansion of its athletic complex.
The Hoffmans’ gift is the third $1 million commitment Holy Cross has received this spring.
