Ground Broken on Complex Named For Ortho Legend

Construction is underway on the $8 million Dane Miller Science Complex at Grace College & Seminary in Winona Lake. Officials say the new facility will help meet growing demand for math, science and medical fields of study. The Department of Science and Mathematics now includes 13 science majors and 11 pre-professional tracks.

Grace College says the department has grown six-fold over the last 40 years. Plans for the science complex include 22,500 square-feet of renovated space and 13,000 square-feet of new space. President Bill Katip says "as we have advanced as an institution, the sciences have become a critical part of our mission to mold servant leaders. Our growth in health and environmental science and pre-medical fields has necessitated that we build modern classrooms and purchase updated equipment. The Dr. Dane A. Miller Science Complex will be a state-of-the-art facility, with the latest in labs and equipment, to train world-class biologists, chemists, engineers and medical professionals at Grace College."

The building will be named for the late founder and long-time chief executive officer of Biomet in Warsaw, Dane Miller. Miller and his widow Mary Louise have supported the school for many years. Grace College says all but $900,000 of the funding for construction has been raised. The project is part of the college’s largest-ever fundraising campaign, which was publicly announced Thursday, and is designed to bring in $37 million. The silent phase of the Aspire Campaign attracted more than $27 million.
