Lafayette-based Trinitas Ventures will this month host a series of workshops and public open houses to gather feedback on plans to redevelop the former Kmart location near College Mall in Bloomington. The commercial real estate firm says it plans to transform the 12-acre site to a mixed-use development that will include residential, retail, office, and hospitality space.
Illinois-based Sears Holding Corp. (Nasdaq: SHLD) announced in January it was closing the 95,000-square-foot Kmart store. Trinitas says the planned redevelopment project will "transform Bloomington’s east side from strip centers and single-use developments to well-designed, mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly properties."
The workshops and presentations will take place July 24-26 at Binford Elementary School in Bloomington. Developers hope to obtain input from residents, businesses, government officials, education officials and students, among others.
You can learn more about the development, which would be known as The District at Latimer Square, as well as a full schedule of the workshops and presentations by clicking here.
Trinitas is also in planning stages for a similar project in West Lafayette. The firm will Monday begin its public input sessions for the Chauncey Hill Mall mixed-use project, which is expected to cost $250 million and will ultimately create up to 1,000 full-time and part-time jobs
