Illinois-based Sears Holding Corp. (Nasdaq: SHLD) has announced plans to close a total of 103 additional Sears and Kmart stores throughout the country, including three in Indiana. The company says it is closing the unprofitable stores in an effort to transform its business model.

Sears says the goal is to match its physical store footprint and digital capabilities with the needs and preferences of customers. The company says the Kmart stores in Bloomington and on the southeast side of Indianapolis will close in early April. The Sears location in Evansville will close by the end of January.

Eligible employees at the stores being shuttered will receive severance pay and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at other area Kmart or Sears stores. Liquidation sales at the closing stores will begin as early as January 12.

The exact locations of the Indiana stores impacted by this latest round of closures include:

  • Kmart: 5101 E. Thompson Road, Indianapolis
  • Kmart: 3175 West 3rd Street, Bloomington
  • Sears: 1100 S. Green River Road, Evansville

Last July, the company announced it was closing 35 Sears and Kmart stores throughout the U.S., including four Indiana locations. Sears also announced in September 2016 it was closing three Indiana Kmart stores.
