The building aims to address the club’s "rapid growth" and allow for an increase in programming.
The club announced plans for the facility in March 2016, saying membership had grown by 22 percent since 2010. The new building will feature a music room, fitness room, a dedicated cafeteria for meals programs, an auditorium and outdoor green space.
"Being able to offer outdoor play for our members is very exciting to us as we know the many benefits it provides to children," said Becky Terry, executive director of the club. "Research clearly indicates physical, cognitive, and social/emotional development comes with outdoor play. It allows children to build autonomy, utilize their creativity, and it gives them an opportunity to practice decision-making and communication skills. And of course, they can unplug, explore nature, and have some fun!"
The club says it has raised $6.8 million through its Build Grow Capital Campaign to build the facility. Jerry Collins, co-chair of the campaign and former president of the board, says they received "tremendous" local support.
"The community has always stepped-up to help make improvements happen to the Boys & Girls Club, which allows us to better provide services and activity options for the kids involved in the program," said Collins. "It is a great investment in our future, our community, and we are excited to get started."
Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear will speak at the groundbreaking ceremony, alongside campaign co-chair Senator Luke Kenley (R-20) and Terry. The ceremony is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.
