A longtime employee of Bloomington-based Harrell-Fish Inc. has been named the mechanical and building contractor’s fourth president as Steve Dawson steps down from the role but remains CEO.
Jeff Miller, most recently director of virtual construction, started at the company in 2007 as a project manager shortly after graduating from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in building construction management. By 2014 he had established the company’s virtual construction division, joined the leadership team four years later, and in 2024 became a member of the executive team, the company said in a news release.
“I couldn’t be more honored to accept this responsibility,” Miller said. “This company and its people have taken care of me for nearly two decades of my life. HFI provides for me and my family no different than it does for the other 590 families. This company means the world to me, and I am ecstatic to be in a position to make a difference for the long haul.”
Dawson will continue his daily involvement in the company as CEO with a focus on vision, strategy and culture, the company said.
Dawson started working at Harrell-Fish Inc. in 1991. That same year he graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
He was named president and CEO in 1998.
“I am very excited for the future of HFI,” Dawson said in the release. “We have established ourselves as a leader in the mechanical construction industry at both the local and national level. As we have grown and continue to grow, our organization must evolve to meet the needs of our clients, communities, and our employees. I am looking forward to working with Jeff and our entire team to achieve our goals.”
Founded in 1985, Harrell-Fish Inc. now has five offices in Indiana and does work in nine states in and around the Midwest.
Earlier this year it was named by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce as one of the Best Places to Work in Indiana, Inside INdiana Business reported.
