Aurora Funeral Employees Offered Federal Assistance

Subscribe NowThe Indiana Department of Workforce Development says employees at Matthews Aurora Funeral Solutions in Dearborn County have been offered federal assistance in the event of future layoffs. No actual layoffs have been publicly announced by the company and it is not known how many future employees may potentially be affected.
The U.S. Department of Labor says "workers who have been or may become totally or partially separated" are eligible to take part in the Trade Adjustment Assistance program, which is available to workers displaced because of foreign imports or production being moved out of the country.
The DWD says workers employed at the company between June 24, 2015 and August 4, 2018 are eligible for the benefits. The program provides services to assist unemployed workers in finding employment.
Pittsburgh-based Matthews International Corp. (Nasdaq: MATW) acquired the former Aurora Casket Co. from New York-based Kohlberg & Co. in a $214 million deal last year. In January, Aurora Casket Chief Executive Officer Michael Quinn announced he was leaving the company to take the same position with another Kohlberg subsidiary.
The DWD is encouraging Aurora Funeral Solutions employees to contact their local WorkOne Career Center to connect with the TAA program.
