Foster Program Focuses on Workforce Readiness
Indianapolis-based nonprofit Foster Success has launched a workforce readiness program to support teens and young adults who are currently in foster care or have previously been in the system. The organization says the goal is to help them find and maintain consistent employment.
Foster Success says only 51% of foster youth report being employed at age 21, compared to 61% of their non-foster care peers.
“The Workforce Readiness program will help ensure that young people aging out of foster care have a clear path to reliable, good-paying jobs,” said Foster Success CEO and President Dr. Maggie Stevens. “The goal is to assist more than 200 young people over the next five years.”
Foster Success has hired two new employees to launch the program. Jarod Wilson is the new Senior Director of Education and Workforce Readiness. Daniel Hurst will serve as the Program Coordinator for Workforce Readiness.
