The partners plan to deploy wireless gateways throughout the WHIN’s 10-county region to create continuous broadband coverage.
The LoRaWAN gateways, which the WHIN describes as low power, wide area networking protocols, are designed to wirelessly connect devices to the internet with the goal of creating a regional network.
The WHIN says the technology will allow areas throughout the region to deploy internet-based sensors for agriculture, manufacturing and Internet of Things devices.
“We are excited for the opportunity to partner with Watch Communications and further expand broadband capabilities in our region,” Johnny Park, chief executive officer of the WHIN said in a news release. “This partnership will allow us to reach more areas of the WHIN region and continue our mission of developing our region into a global epicenter of digital agricultural and next-generation manufacturing.”
Watch Communications CEO Chris Daniels says the effort will provide “invaluable feedback” as it works to expand high-speed internet throughout the state.
