Anderson ‘Perfect Environment’ For Italpollina Operation

ANDERSON, Ind. – The head of an Italian agbiosciences company that has established its North American headquarters in Anderson calls Indiana "the perfect environment for business." During a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday on a former General Motors plant site, Italpollina Chief Executive Officer Luca Bonini said his company is already working on a second production phase that could open the door for exports from the Madison County operation. The company now has four production sites and more than a dozen commercial offices.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business Reporter Mary-Rachel Redman, Bonini said several factors played into picking Anderson. "In the beginning, we were just planning to feed the needs of North America," he said. "Right now, we are exporting back to Europe, to Asia, to South America, and that was not in the plan. Thanks to the great environment that we found here and the possibility to grow continuously in this place." Bonini also cited the nearby proximity of Purdue Polytechnic Institute Anderson and good relationships with local elected officials as reasons for locating in the state.
"Everybody is looking and say ‘OK, you’re going where? What are you going to do there? You’re really building a plant from scratch (in Anderson)?’ And I said, listen, after the experience and how difficult it is to make business in Europe and overall in Italy, I’d say here, I can find the right — the perfect environment for business," Bonini said.
The North American headquarters in Anderson includes 70,000 square-feet that is expected to employ around 35. Construction on the $9 million operation began in late-2016.
