One of the most well-known names in the Indiana auto manufacturing industry is leaving the state. Norm Bafunno, president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana Inc., has been named group vice president of North American competitiveness at the company’s new regional headquarters in Plano, Texas. He joined Toyota as general manager of production at TMMI in 1997. In his new role, Bafunno will support various areas, including research and development, product engineering, sales and marketing and manufacturing. Millie Marshall, who currently serves as president of Toyota Motor North America’s powertrain plant in Charleston, West Virginia, will succeed Bafunno, beginning January 1. She has served in a variety of roles for Toyota since joining the company in 1991. Toyota Indiana celebrated its 20th anniversary earlier this year. The plant produces several Toyota models, including the Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, Sequoia SUV and Sienna minivan. More than 5,000 workers are employed at the facility.
