The Indiana State Senate has its newest member. Andy Zay (R-17) took the oath of office Tuesday at the Indiana Statehouse. He replaces Jim Banks, who is heading to Washington as a congressman representing the third district. Zay will represent Wabash County and parts of Grant, Huntington and Whitley counties. He owns Zay Leasing and Rentals Inc. in Huntington.
Zay said "today begins an exciting day of service to the folks of the 17th District and the State of Indiana. I am honored and humbled to be following in the footsteps of such legendary Senate leaders as Jim and Amanda Banks, Gary Dillion, Harold Wheeler and Gene Snowden. I’m looking forward to working with my Senate colleagues in the upcoming session."
The legislative session will convene January 3 and be complete April 29. Zay will serve on Senate agriculture, natural resources, education and career development and insurance and financial institutions committees.
The 2017 legislative session will reconvene on Jan. 3, and, by law, must be completed no later than April 29.
