Wrestling Tourney to Kick Off in Fort Wayne

A national wrestling tournament is expected to have a major impact on the city of Fort Wayne. The 2017 National Wrestling Coaches Association Multi-Division National Duals, which kick off Thursday, is expected to bring an estimated 10,000 attendees to the city.
The two-day event at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum features 88 teams, including 3,000 wrestlers and coaches, from five collegiate divisions. Visit Fort Wayne says the tournament will generate an estimated $1.3 million in economic impact.
The teams, which represent 15 states, will compete for national titles and awards in the DII, DIII, NAIA, NJCAA and WCWA divisions.
This will not be the only national wrestling tournament held in Allen County this year. Fort Wayne will play host next month to the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional wrestling championship, which will also be held at the War Memorial Coliseum.
