The more than $5 million project, which will include a performance hall and two-story art gallery, is expected to be complete in early 2018.
Officials say the performance hall will seat up to 2,200 people. The renovation aims to transform the 21,000 square-foot theatre into a multi-use and entertainment venue.
In May, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. approved $1 million in Regional Cities Initiative funding for the project. The IEDC said the project will preserve the theatre’s unique features while accommodating it for modern use.
Mayor Henry will be joined by the theatre’s owners, investors and supports for the celebration, which is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
