Work begins on hospice care expansion in Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne-based elderly care provider Saint Anne Communities has broken ground on a $2 million expansion to begin offering long-term hospice care.
The renovation to its 1900 Randallia Drive facility will create five hospice suites for the terminally ill and their families along with a private chapel, private entrance and private garage.
Called St. Joseph Catholic Hospice Suites, it will be among few brick-and-mortar hospices in northeast Indiana but the only Catholic or faith-based hospice care, the organization said in a news release.
The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by spring 2026. The organization said it plans to add nursing and admissions jobs, though a specific number of new positions is not yet known.
A benefit and silent auction will be held Oct. 21 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum conference center to raise funds for the expansion. Business owners interested in sponsoring the event or donating to the silent auction are asked to email maria.nancarrow@sacfw.org or call 260-602-4822.
Established in 1967 and part of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Saint Anne Communities offers elderly services such as independent care, assisted living, rehabilitation, memory care and 24-hour nursing care.
