News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — The Indiana Commission for Women (ICW) has been selected to host the 2015 Annual Conference and Business Meeting for the National Association of Commissions for Women (NACW) in July 2015. Cecilia Zamora, NACW president, wrote in her announcement letter, “We are looking forward to bring our conference to your state and to celebrate with the women of Indiana!”

NACW's national membership is comprised of state, county and city women's commissions representing the interests of millions of women and girls. Each year, the conference attracts commission board members, staff and supporters and provides workshops, networking and briefings on national trends on the status of women. It also offers attendees opportunities to connect with colleagues and peers who are working on issues impacting women.

With assistance from Visit Indy, the Indiana Commission for Women submitted an extensive proposal highlighting the city's attributes as a meeting location. Indianapolis was recently named the #1 convention city in the U.S. by USA Today. “Not only is Indianapolis a great location because approximately 50% of the nation’s population can travel by car to Indianapolis in a day but NACW hasn't held its annual conference in the Midwest since 2007,” said Christine Altman, Chair of the Indiana Commission for Women. “So, we hope that our regional colleagues will be able to attend next year’s conference.”
