The Whitestown Plan Commission has given final approval to a much-anticipated retail project. The $50 million Shoppes at Whitestown development will feature two large buildings with space for close to 20 tenants as well as additional plots for restaurants and boutique shops.
The 33-acre plot of land east of I-65 has been identified for a retail complex since 2004, but several projects have fallen through at that location. Whitestown Director of Planning Lauren Bailey says South Carolina-based RealtyLink "was willing to work with the town and its residents for many long months to make sure they are building a center that will suit our community."
RealtyLink hopes to break ground in September, with the first phase of the project opening in the fall of 2018.
In addition to the retail center, the project includes a roundabout that will be built at the main entrance. It will also feature greenspace, including a small park. Bailey says the design will keep extra traffic out of nearby neighborhoods.
Whitestown has been Indiana’s fastest-growing community for the last six years, with a recently-completed special census showing the town’s population has more than doubled since 2010. That did not go unnoticed by RealtyLink. Principal Andrew Dettro says the company is "excited by all the new residential development" in Boone County as well as the vitality of Indiana’s economy.
