In a notice to the state, the company says the layoffs are due to "the anticipated sale of a portion of the Company’s business line." White Lodging announced Wednesday it was selling 82 of its hotel management contracts to Virginia-based Interstate Hotels and Resorts for an undisclosed sum.
The company says the affected employees are located at the company’s corporate offices in Merrillville. The layoffs are expected to begin at the end of January and continue through the beginning of April.
White Lodging did not specify which hotels would be sold as a result of the deal with Interstate Hotels and Resorts, but said they represent less than 25 percent of its revenue. The company expects the sale to close at the end of January.
Founder and Chairman Bruce White said in a news release the company plans to use the net proceeds from the sale to "reinvest in strategic select and full service assets."
