WGU Clears 3,000 Grads

Thursday, January 21, 2016 07:20 AM EDT Updated: Thursday, January 21, 2016 08:26 AM EDT
WGU Clears 3,000 Grads Chancellor Allison Barber has led WGU since its inception.

WGU Indiana has reached another milestone. The state’s nonprofit, online university has awarded its 3,000th degree since launching in 2010.

Chancellor Allison Barber says "WGU Indiana has expanded accessibility to higher education by lowering costs and helping students make smart financial choices about their futures. The average WGU student sees a full return on investment in the first three years after graduating."

The school was established six years ago as an alliance between the state and Western Governors University. The goal is to boost access to higher education and the percentage of Hoosiers with education beyond high school.

Governor Mike Pence says "I’m pleased to learn that WGU Indiana has graduated its 3,000th student in less than six years. This outstanding milestone is a testament to the steadfast and tireless work of the entire WGU team and its many students here in the Hoosier state. I am thankful that WGU Indiana offers these educational opportunities while allowing balance between school, work, and family."

The cohort that included the 3,000th grad completes coursework in December. More than 4,200 students are currently enrolled at WGU.

“We network networks.” In a bold stroke of bravado, Cisco Systems co-founder Sandy Lerner gave what is now known to be one of the most specific descriptions of her company that has ever been recorded. The statement, consisting of only three words, described EXACTLY what Cisco did as a company. And the rest is history....
