He brings 30 years of experience in electronic media production and management. Powell has spent the last 14 years as news director at WUOT in Knoxville. He is a national and regional Edward R. Murrow Award-winning producer for excellence in broadcast journalism. Prior to his leadership tenure at WUOT, Powell served in several broadcast capacities, including radio, news and video production experience in his home state of Michigan. He received his B.A.A. degree from Central Michigan University. Powell currently serves on the Board of the Public Radio News Directors Inc., where he leads the organization’s training efforts. He has also served on the East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists board of directors, has been a volunteer basketball coach for Girls Inc., among other professional and community participation.
