Welch Completes $16M Expansion

Elkhart-based Welch Packaging Group has completed the installation of a $16 million production line. The Elkhart Truth reports the line will employ more than 50 workers, part of the company’s commitment to add 118 jobs by April 2018.
The publication says the company’s new corrugating machine will allow it to manufacture its own corrugated cardboard. The expansion project included connecting two existing buildings to make room for the new line, which was an expansion of 130,000 square feet.
"Our community and our customers have always been at the heart of the business decisions we make," said Welch Packaging President Scott Welch. "We would not have been able to make this type of investment without such great support from our local customers through the years."
The Truth reports Welch received a five-year tax abatement in March 2015 for the project. The publication says the new jobs that will be added will have an average wage of $17.40 per hour.
