Two companies are celebrating milestones in their expansion plans in Wayne County. Ohio-based SugarCreek will hold the grand opening of its 418,000 square-foot food production facility in Cambridge City while Connecticut-based Buffalo Pet Products will break ground on its $100 million manufacturing facility in Richmond.

SugarCreek originally announced plans for the Cambridge City operations in 2012. The company has invested more than $120 million to acquire, refurbish and equip the facility and has since expanded it to more than three times its original size.

Initial operations at the facility began last year. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says SugarCreek currently employs nearly 300 full-time workers at the plant and is looking to create a total of 400 jobs.

Buffalo Pet Products announced plans in May for the Richmond facility, which is expected begin operations by 2018. The company plans to add up to 165 jobs at the plant, including positions in food processing, food quality assurance and general management.

The grand opening of the SugarCreek facility is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. and the ground breaking of the Blue Buffalo plant is scheduled for 3:15. Lieutenant Governor Eric Holcomb will be on hand for both events.
