Primex Plastics Corp. has announced plans to expand its Richmond operations and create nearly 20 jobs. The company says it will invest $4.7 million for new equipment, software and an employee training program.

Richmond, Ind. — Primex Plastics Corporation, a subsidiary of ICC Industries, located at 1235 North F Street in Richmond will receive $70,000 in an Economic Development Income Tax (EDIT) Grant from the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) of Wayne County. The funds will be used to assist the company with a three-phase expansion project involving new equipment, a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) software system and the newly developed Human Capital Initiative, a company-wide training program. As a result of the project, Primex Plastics will create 19 new full-time jobs and invest $4.7 million.

The Human Capital Initiative will provide training throughout the company including supervisor training as well as quality control, Lean and inventory training, manufacturing cross-training, and professional skills enhancement. The company plans to promote 12 existing employees to become full-time trainers. To fill those vacancies, the company plans to hire 12 new full-time employees in 2015. EDC president, Valerie Shaffer says, “Primex Plastics is making a big commitment to employee training at all levels in their facility. We’re happy to partner with them to increase the skill level of their workforce.”

The new Bubble Guard machinery will allow the company to expand their product offerings. The new equipment extrudes a product that can also be printed. The new machinery will create at least 6 new full-time positions by 2015.

The new ERP software system will integrate and streamline many of the company’s core business operations to increase effectiveness. The new software system will create 1 full-time employee by 2016.

The request for EDIT funds will now go before the Wayne County Commissioners for their consideration.
