Wayne County organizations emptied their pockets for the Wayne County Foundation to raise over a million dollars for the 2018 Challenge Match. Fifty-four organizations raised nearly $1.4 million over a nine-day period in November. The Challenge Match allowed the institutions to share up to $240,000 from the foundation based on the qualifying gifts received from the community, with all but two meeting or exceeding their goals. The foundation match brought the total raised to over $1.63 million.
“Our community is incredibly generous,” said Steve Borchers, executive director of the Foundation.  “This was the largest Challenge Match to date in terms of the number of participating organizations and the number of dollars raised.  Clearly, this remains an incredibly effective tool to help local not-for-profit organizations promote themselves in the community and raise critical operating dollars.”

Some of the participating organizations and the amounts raised:

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County- $313,799.58
  • Richmond Symphony Orchestra- $127,728.31
  • Richmond Art Museum- $69,688.14
  • Communities in Schools of Wayne County- $68,589.76
  • Amigos Richmond Latino Center- $35,973.45
