The event has attracted national attention over the years, including coverage on CNN, CBS and in Smithsonian magazine.
This year’s event will feature a nighttime air show and music by the band Hot Rod Lincoln. There will also be a fireworks show, followed by 16 watermelons dropping onto a "splatform" at midnight. The city has hosted the event since 2008.
The state is organizing a variety of events to mark its 200th anniversary. Among them is a 2,300-mile relay that will take the Indiana Bicentennial Torch through all 92 counties. It beings in Corydon on September 9.
