Walmart to Close Indy Neighborhood Market

Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT) has announced plans to close one of its Neighborhood Market locations on the east side of Indianapolis. Anne Hatfield, a spokesperson for Walmart, tells Inside INdiana Business that while the decision was not easy, the store will close due to "financial performance."
The store is located at 8010 E. 38th Street in Indy and is set to close July 12. About 100 people are employed and the company says HR teams will meet with each employee to transfer them to another location if they wish to do so.
Hatfield says the pharmacy at the 38th Street location will close a week earlier on July 5. The pharmacy is working with customers to transfer prescriptions to a location of their choice. Any leftover prescriptions that have not been transferred will be moved to the Walmart Neighborhood Market at 5500 E. Fall Creek Parkway North Drive.
Walmart does not have any plans to close any other Indiana locations, according to Hatfield. In April, the company announced plans to invest more than $96 million in its Indiana stores this year.
