Wabash has come out on top of a national competition. The city took the top prize in the Small Business Revolution on Main Street initiative, which began with nearly 10,000 nominations. Minnesota-based Deluxe Corp. (NYSE: DLX) will provide $500,000 in services and support for a community makeover, and produce an online show about the work that is set to debut in the fall. Wabash beat out Silverton, Oregon after more than 180,000 online votes.
The company launched a program showcasing 100 small businesses last year to tout its 100th anniversary. In 1880, the city notched its place in history, becoming the first in the world to be lit by electricity. It is home to the Honeywell Center, which is named for Mark Honeywell, the Wabash native who founded global conglomerate Honeywell Inc. (NYSE: HON).
