When complete, the $64 million facility will feature main-floor dining for more than 200 people and an upper-level event space for up to 250 people.
The 56,000-square-foot building will also feature a restaurant and pub, game room, living room, and swag shop, the college said in a news release.
“The new community center will bring town and gown together for meetings, fundraisers, and celebrations,” said Wabash President Scott Feller. “We are excited for the endless opportunities the new building will provide for our students, but it will also be the place where our students can work with and learn from our neighbors and nonprofits. By working together, we will strengthen our community in every possible way.”
The college did not specify the cost of the project, noting that it is still finalizing financing for the facility.
The building will replace the 70-year-old Frank Hugh Sparks Center, which currently serves as a student union and dining hall. The lower floor of the Sparks Center houses the Wabash College Bookstore, The Scarlet Inn, Bon Appetit and the Campus Mailroom.
That facility is expected to be demolished this spring, with construction on the new community center to follow.
