VU to Operate Local Radio Station
Vincennes University Broadcasting has announced it will resume operation of a local FM radio station beginning April 1. The university had previously leased the station to Washington-based DLC Media Inc., however VU says the lease will expire at the end of the month.
The university says it will unveil the station’s new format on April 2. Local broadcaster and VU alum Dane Foley will serve as program director and the station will include a new on-air staff.
"I believe that we are going to fill a musical hole in our market," said WFML General Manager Kevin Watson. "While we have enjoyed our working agreement with DLC Media over the past decade, we are even more thrilled about the opportunities that operating WFML in-house will provide for our listeners, our local community and our students."
Vincennes says the newly-reformatted station will continue to carry Purdue basketball and football, as well as full local news coverage and Network Indiana updates.
"We will be working closely with the Vincennes University Foundation and other area organizations to re-focus WFML’s attention on the needs and interests of our local community," said Nichole Carie, director of operations for VU Broadcasting. "This focus is one of the most important responsibilities of a broadcast station and we are excited to restore that local feel on WFML. It not only benefits our community, but also our broadcasting students as they learn what broadcasting is all about."
DLC Media President Dave Crooks released a statement on Facebook, thanking the Vincennes University Foundation, which holds the license for WFML. Vincennes University Broadcasting also operates WVUT-TV and WVUB-FM.
