News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. — Anthis Career Center is changing its name to the FWCS Career Academy at Anthis as well as its look to go with the new name. The new name and fresh look better reflect the programs offered today while continuing to honor former FWCS Superintendent Bill C. Anthis. The blue logo also connects the Career Academy to the building's roots as Central High School, which had blue and white as its school colors.

“Career and Technical Education is not the vocational education it used to be,” FWCS Superintendent Dr. Wendy Robinson said. “Today we are integrating specialized career training with challenging academic learning, which means that our programs have increased in rigor and relevance to the needs of today's employers.”

The FWCS Career Academy at Anthis serves 22 high schools in Northeastern Indiana. It offers 11 updated programs – from aviation technology to welding – that prepare students for post-secondary education or immediate employment after high school. Most programs include national, state and local certifications. Emphasis is placed on using new technology, developing a strong work ethic and understanding human diversity. Programs are continually updated to meet industry-based standards.

“The FWCS Career Academy has solid partnerships with local business and industry, as well as post-secondary schools,” said Dr. Robinson. “Our goal is to provide a highly qualified and prepared workforce to the community.”

With nearly 31,000 students, Fort Wayne Community Schools is one of the largest school districts in Indiana. FWCS proudly allows families to choose any of its 51 schools through its successful school-choice program creating diversity in each school, including some with more than 75 languages spoken. FWCS offers seven magnet schools focusing on areas such as science and math, communication, fine arts or Montessori at the elementary and middle school level. In high school, students can choose from the prestigious International Baccalaureate program, Project Lead the Way or New Tech Academy as well as other rigorous academic and specialty training programs.
