Morgan Snyder says approximately 40,000-50,000 fans are expected to attend events this weekend at the historic venue. In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, Snyder says the Air Race has stirred regional interest.
She says hotel bookings have picked-up and "our drive-in markets are strong for the race this weekend and any of the ancillary events going on in the city."
Another first-time event, the Evermore Music Festival, runs through Sunday at the American Legion Mall in downtown Indianapolis. The show is raising money for the American Red Cross and organizers say similar events in other cities have pulled in millions for charity.
As it does with many inaugural events, Snyder says the tourism organization will assess the economic impact of the race and concert after the weekend.
She says the city has embraced the aerobatic event, which is supported by a globally-identifiable brand.
