Subscribe NowThe Indianapolis-based Pass the Torch For Women Foundation will Tuesday host its inaugural virtual event focused on empowering female talent. The nonprofit says the event is designed to inspire companies and teams to elevate their internal initiatives to close the equity gap.
The foundation’s chief executive officer, Deb Hallberg, tells Inside INdiana Business one of the aspects of the event is showcasing mentorship as a key to elevating women in their professional journey.
“When we enter the workforce…we don’t know everything and it’s okay. You don’t have to know everything,” said Hallberg. “That’s why having a mentor to help you navigate some of the barriers and the challenges that you will face, someone who has been there and done that, it’s key to your advancement – to have that counsel and someone to share their wisdom and knowledge on how they made it.”
“How to Invest in Your Female Talent: Closing the Gap Through Elevated DEI Strategies” will feature speakers such as Cassandra Porter, CEO of Favorite Part of My Day LLC; Ivy Tech Community College President Dr. Sue Ellspermann; Kristin Garvey, immediate past president of the National Association of Commissions for Women; and Jeannie Sager, director of the Women’s Philanthropy Institute at the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.
Hallberg says the foundation made the decision earlier this year to move all of its events to a virtual format due to the pandemic. She says utilizing virtual technology will be something that the foundation continues to use even after the pandemic is over.
“We were already doing some virtual events because our Project Grow students, which are our non-traditional adult female students are all over the state of Indiana, up and down the East Coast, virtually all over the U.S., as are our mentors. So in order to reach all of our community, we have to do things, programs, modules, webinars, they have to be virtual.”
