Vincennes University Appoints Chair of Music Department

Vincennes University has promoted Sharon Jackson to chair of its Department of Music. She is an associate professor of music and director of bands. Jackson is also faculty advisor and founder of the school’s Collegiate Chapter of National Association for Music Education and was the recipient of the Exemplary Service Award. She received both her bachelor of science in Music Education and Percussion Performance, as well as her master of science in Percussion Performance from Indiana State University.
Jackson has been actively involved in the public schools, serving as a percussion instructor and staff member for the South Knox, Princeton Community and Vincennes Lincoln high school bands. She has been an active member of the Indiana All-State Percussion Ensemble and served as a visiting assistant professor of music at Indiana State University, Lincoln Trail College and St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, where she taught percussion methods. Jackson is also a past secretary-treasurer of the Indiana Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society.
In addition to teaching, Jackson serves as conductor and co-coordinator for the annual Vincennes Tuba Christmas performance and is a performing member of the Cramped Spaces Ensemble, Tropical Sunrise and Caribbean Consort Steel Drum Band. She has been a guest clinician and performer throughout Indiana and Illinois.
