Vincennes Foundation Receives Largest Single Gift

The Vincennes University Foundation has received what it says is the largest individual donation in its history. The foundation says the $4.5 million gift from Alexandra Page Clark will benefit students in the Practical Nursing and Music programs at VU.
The Alexandra Clark and Oscar Dunn Scholarships include a $3.5 million permanent scholarship endowment for students studying music and performing in the band or other music ensembles, and a $1 million endowment for students pursuing the one-year certificate to become a licensed practical nurse.
The university says financial need and the student’s desire to learn will be considered as greater factors than high scholastic achievements in determining the scholarship recipients, per the wishes of Clark. The scholarships will also help fill the gap where the recipient needs the most assistance, such as housing or other college expenses.
"This gift represents a historic level of support for Vincennes University. We have been fortunate to have a long-standing relationship with the Clark-Dunn family and are humbled by their generosity," said VU President Chuck Johnson. "A gift of this magnitude will have a multi-generational impact on VU, our students, their families, and the communities we serve."
Clark passed away in 2017. The gift also comes in the name of her husband, Oscar Dunn, who established a scholarship with the foundation 30 years ago that awards mathematics students and band members at Vincennes Lincoln High School who are planning to attend VU.
"Alexandra Clark and Oscar Dunn have created a legacy that demonstrates stewardship at an inspiring level," said Kristi Deetz, interim director of the foundation. "They had a strong affinity for Vincennes University and were passionate about the sciences and performing arts. Thanks to their kindness, more students will be presented the opportunity to turn their potential into reality."
