President Dick Helton says the initiative will launch this fall in some Marion County and Hammond schools. He says the effort fits well with Governor Mike Pence's call for more technical education in high school and college. Helton discussed the program during the (i) on Education segment on Inside INdiana Business Television. VU's early college program is currently offered in five locations, including Washington, Lawrenceburg and Fort Wayne.
The new initiative emphasizes career and technical training, which previously had not been emphasized.
The existing program in Evansville schools is a collaboration between Vincennes, Ivy Tech Community College, the University of Southern Indiana and the University of Evansville.
