A $500,000 gift will help Valparaiso University set up a fund to help students dealing with emergency situations. The donation from Andrew Nunemaker will establish the scholarship, designed to support students facing unexpected financial situations that could threaten their academic careers.
The Nunemaker Endowed Scholarship will be operated through the Valpo Fund. The school says allocation of the money would be confidential.
Nunemaker graduated from Valpo in 1991 with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering. He has served on the school’s board of directors since 2011. He is chief executive officer of health insurance software developer Kynamis Software Corp. in Wisconsin. He says he never would have been able to attend Valpo without the support of scholarships, and adds that he wants to "help future Valpo students overcome hardships and reap the benefit of the same amazing experience."
