Valpo Adds New Degrees

Valparaiso University has added two new degree options. The school says the data science and statistics programs are in response to an increased demand for workers in those fields.
The university cites a CNN Money study suggesting the data science field will grow more than 18 percent over the next 10 years and McKinsey Global Institute data predicting 140,000-190,000 job openings in the field by 2018. The school says the new programs will allow students to take advantage of the industry’s significant growth
Valpo says the programs will focus on skills including statistical modeling, data mining and experimental design. Students enrolled in data science can also pursue a master’s degree in analytics and modeling through the school’s "4+1" option.
Valparaiso University’s College of Arts and Sciences is the largest of its five undergraduate colleges, offering more than 70 academic programs in 21 departments.
