USIC Partners on Workforce Training Initiative

Indianapolis-based utility damage prevention services provider USIC LLC is partnering with the Hinds Career Center in Elwood. The company says the partnership will provide underground utility locating training to high school seniors.

USIC President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Ryan says the training students will receive will make them eligible to be hired by the company as a locate technician immediately following graduation.

“This program is their first step toward a long-term career which pays well and offers tremendous benefits and the potential for career advancement,” Ryan said in a news release. “USIC is committed to supporting and giving back to the communities in which our employees work and live. It’s a win-win situation, with the program providing a steady stream of fully trained locate technicians ready to join our USIC team.”

The program includes a course that features classroom instruction at the Hinds Career Center, as well as field instruction.

USIC says the course can prepare up to 40 students annually for new jobs. After completing the course, the company says it will pay for the students’ relocation to any of the 47 states in which it operates.

Ryan says the company hopes to develop similar partnerships with other vocational education institutions across Indiana and throughout its operating network.
