The victory is a historic one for the USI team, which is the first women’s program at the school and the first softball program in Indiana to win an NCAA title.
The team defeated Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire in the first two games of the best-of-three series to take the championship. The win capped off a 14-1 postseason record for USI, which became the 17th team in NCAA Division II history to sweep the softball championship with a perfect 5-0 record.
