INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — UPS reiterated its longstanding commitment to education and its support of students at Indiana’s private, nonprofit colleges and universities by delivering a $75,175 scholarship check to the Independent Colleges of Indiana on October 22. UPS Ohio Valley District President Zachary Scott officially presented the check to ICI Board Chairman Sister M. Elise, O.S.F., president of Saint Francis University, and ICI President & CEO Richard Ludwick at the fall ICI board of directors’ meeting.
To be shared equally by Indiana’s 31 independent colleges and universities, the money permits each ICI campus to select one student for a $2,425 scholarship on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.
“We are grateful UPS continues to share ICI’s commitment to academic excellence and choice for all students,” says Richard L. Ludwick, ICI president & CEO. “This scholarship focuses on the very students that our campuses strive so diligently to serve and ensure success through college completion.”
This gift to Indiana’s independent colleges and universities is part of more than $1.5 million in grants this year alone to similar institutions across the country from the CIC-UPS Educational Endowment Fund, held and administered by the Council of Independent Colleges. Since 1985 this program has awarded more than $50 million in scholarships to more than 18,000 students nationwide.
In announcing the grants, Richard Ekman, president of the Council of Independent Colleges, said, “By directly assisting students with significant financial need, CIC and UPS are helping a new generation of students achieve their dreams of a college education.
