University Leaders Gather in Indy

Subscribe NowMore than 1,200 university representatives from throughout the United States are in Indianapolis for the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities’ 128th annual meeting. University of California President and former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano is keynoting the event.
The event focuses on how universities spark innovation, entrepreneurship and economic development through community partnerships. The organization has 237 member institutions representing all 50 U.S. states.
Monday’s activities will feature a tour of Indianapolis and IUPUI. The tour will feature stops including the John H. Boner Community Center, and IUPUI’s Campus Center Theater. Also Monday, actor, writer and director Alan Alda will deliver APLU’s Council of Presidents luncheon address. Alda helped found the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University in 2009.
One panel during the three-day event will also spotlight the 16 Tech Innovation District and the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute. Another will focus on promoting entrepreneurship through university-led technology commercialization.
