The chief executive officer of Virginia-based United Way Worldwide has been appointed to the Ball State University Board of Trustees. Brian Gallagher, a graduate of Ball State, will serve on the board through 2020. Governor Mike Pence appointed Gallagher to the board. Gallagher earned his bachelor’s degree in social work from the university in 1981. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate in humanities from Ball State in 2003. As president and CEO, Gallagher oversaw the merger of United Way of America and United Way International into what is now known as United Way Worldwide. In addition to Ball State, Gallagher serves on the boards of directors for Washington D.C.-based America’s Promise Alliance and Leadership 18, also based in Virginia.
