Indianapolis is prepared to welcome a new hotel to the city, but this one is far from your standard brick and mortar building. Officials will Friday break ground on Tiny Urban Escapes, a boutique hotel built from up-cycled shipping containers.

The development is located in a commercial corridor along West Michigan Street, in the heart of the Near West Great Place.

The developer, Robin Staten-Lanier, says travelers have grown tired of cookie-cutter hotels and have begun shifting toward new and more intimate types of hotels.

The company says Tiny Urban Escapes will offer fully automated, self-service modular suites

Construction is set to be complete later this summer.

There is a notable energy in the Central Indiana community that drives many of us to want to support the non-profit organizations that make our city a better place for us all to live. Whether you are interested in social services, animal welfare, public safety, the arts, veterans’ services, education, entrepreneurship, sports, environment, senior issues, food stability and so many more - there is no shortage of need and opportunity to become involved....
