The two-year program will have an emphasis on health policy and students from any major can apply. The program comes with a dual degree option, allowing for undergraduate public health majors with Master of Public Health degree when they graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in public health. The dual degree option would be completed in five years.
"(The program) is another opportunity for students to stay at UE and pursue a graduate education," said Payal Patel-Dovlatabadi, assistant professor and director of UE’s public health program. "Enrollment in UE’s public health major has increased each year since it was introduced. The job outlook is bright in this area. Public health is a multidisciplinary field and a master’s degree prepares students well for a number of these positions."
The program also includes education in areas including public health, environmental health, managed care, public health law and health economics. The university cited the Association of Schools of Public Health, which estimated a shortage of public health professionals by 2020.
