UE Launches Data Science Program

The University of Evansville has launched a new degree program in the department of mathematics. Students will be able to earn a degree in statistics and data science beginning this fall.
The university says students enrolled in the program will use statistical and computational techniques "to convert vast amounts of data into actionable insights that drive decision making." Data science is a fast-growing field and UE says it is estimated that there will be twice as many data scientist jobs than data scientists by 2018.
"Individuals with education and experience in data science are in high demand," says Shane Davidson, vice president for enrollment services at UE. "Right now, the average salary for a data scientist is $118,000."
Dave Dwyer, chair of the department of mathematics at UE, says students will gain experience working with real-world data through course work and internships. You can click here to find more info on the program.
